Municipal law in Nova Scotia is regulated by the Municipal Government Act which sets out the functions and powers of all municipal units. PLRR is one of the few firms in Nova Scotia that provides legal services to a number of municipal governments, including the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and the Region of Queens.
PLRR has assisted municipal governments in both solicitor related work (drafting contracts, land conveyancing, and providing opinions of statutory interpretation), as well as difficult litigation. Our firm, and in particular, J.C. Reddy, has appeared at all levels of court in Nova Scotia (including the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal), as well the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board to successfully litigate difficult municipal law issues.
